As I stated in “Gold Star Families – When a Loved One Dies in Combat”, Every Major Organization whether is a Division or an Association normally has a Gold Star program with it. This is the case of the 1st Cavalry Division and the Vietnam Helicopters Pilot Association (VHPA). Both of these fine organization hold a “Gold Star Breakfast” where the families get a chance to stand up and talk about their loved one. It also allows them the opportunity to mingle with those who served and usually at least one who knew their loved one. We of Charlie Troop 1st Squadron 9th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division are proud to say the Julie Kink who lost her brother, David, is our representative and she is also a member of “The Family Contacts Committee” which helps those find information about their loved ones and quite often put them in contact with the men who served with them. For many, this affords a great deal of closure and Pride. Below you will find a booklet put together by Julie for the last Breakfast help by the VHPA. Just below that you will find a booklet about “The Family Contacts Committee”. There is a lot of good information and sites for information. Lastly, there is a link for the DD Form 3, which is needed to request your “Gold Star” lapel pin that you can wear proudly. While these cover the men lost in Vietnam, the same sources and the same form is used for all periods of conflict.
To get your downloadable copy of the DD Form 3 to request your “Gold Star Lapel Pin” go to http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/dd0003.pdf. May God Bless our Military Men and Women who are fighting today, fought yesterday, Made the Ultimate Sacrifice and their Families.

Ernie, I cannot send Julie’s email without her permission, I will tell her that you want to talk. If she gives me permission I will forward it to you. If not, maybe she has your email from the VHPA and she will just send an email to you. I have to respect everyone’s privacy.
