Who am I? My name is Patrick Bieneman. I was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 11, 1947. I graduated from high-school in 1966 after having quit for a year and a half. I was drafted into the Army on January 4, 1967. I went to Vietnam in April of 1968 and went home in April of 69. I met and married my loving wife , Carol , while we were both serving at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Over a period of 21 years, I served 18 1/2 years in the Army and was medically retired due to injuries I received while in Vietnam. I went to work at the VA hospital in Lexington, Kentucky as an out-patient clerk working with veterans from WWI to Desert Storm. I retired from the Army in 1988 and from the VA in 1997.
I belong to the “Bullwhip Squadron Association” and the “First Cavalry Division Association. I served in Charlie Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). The Bullwhip Squadron Association is made up of Headquarters, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta Troops of the 9th Cavalry Regiment. It is my honor to belong to this organization.
It is my intention to use this site to let the world know what Charlie Troop is, who the men were that served in Charlie Troop and who the men were that sacrificed their lives for this great country.
Like many of the men and women who served in combat I suffer from Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I will talk about that later.

THANK YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL PHOTO OF ME AND MY SISTER AND OUR DAD. I NOW HAVE THAT PARTICULAR PHOTO FRAMED. IT WAS ALSO THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER BEEN CALLED BILLYJOE NAVE JR. YESTERDAY, THE 27TH OF JUNE WAS PARTICULARLY HARD ON ME AS THAT WAS DAD’S KIA ANNIVERSARY. BUT THEN JUNE IS ALWAYS HARD ON ME, AS I LOST MOM ON THE 5TH OF JUNE 2001, BEFORE WE FINALLY FOUND BWS. I ALSO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH PTSD AT THE AGE OF SEVEN. BELIEVE ME, IT DOES NOT GO AWAY. BUT BECAUSE OF THE MEN IN BWS, IT HAS GOTTEN BETTER. I HAVE NOT FOUND A BETTER BUNCH OF MEN. THEY ARE ALL HEROES IN MY EYES. AND THOSE THAT PASSED AFTER I GOT TO MEET THEM WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. NOR WILL THE ONES WHO ARE STILL HERE. BEING A WOODWORKER BY TRADE, I HAVE BEGUN CARVING VIETNAM ERA GENRE. TO DATE I HAVE CARVED DAD’S LAST HELO ON THE GROUND, AND NOW I’M WORKING ON ANOTHER ONE IN FLIGHT. I ALSO HAVE A PIECE THAT I HOPE TO HAVE FINISHED BY THE FT BENNING REUNION WHICH WILL BE GIVEN IN DEDICATION TO BWS. ITS MY WAY OF GIVING BACK TO DAD’S TROOPERS FOR ALL THEY HAVE GIVEN ME. I doubt you rembember me.
I was on your lift ship the day you rappelled to save a brother. I was also there when we placed the bodies of the three LOH crew members in body bags on 29 December 1968.
